VANCOUVER, Wash. – Northwest Fight Promotions made its debut on Saturday, Nov. 19 with Brandon Cromartie and Aireon Tavarres both scoring impressive victories.
Presented by Northwest Fight Promotions and held at the Clark County Fairgrounds in Vancouver, Wash., Northwest Fight Promotions featured both professional and amateur bouts. Cromartie and Tavarres went the three-round distances in their matches, providing the crowd with a pair of thrilling contests.
Cromartie, who was fighting in front of his home crowd, notched his fourth career win with a unanimous decision over a very game Brennon Crow in the night’s final bout. The judges’ scores in the 147-pound contest were 29-28, 30-27, 30-27 in a fight that saw both combatants go toe-to-toe from the opening bell.
Equally exciting was the card’s penultimate contest between undefeated 185-pounders Tavarres and Adland Benson with the former winning by unanimous decision. Tavarres, who improved to 2-0, was the 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 victor on the scorecards. Benson fell to 2-1 with the setback.
“We couldn’t have ask for a better show for Northwest Fight Promotion’s first time out,” said Northwest Fight Promotions owner George Dodd. “It really was a great night of MMA and I believe it set the standard for this promotion moving forward. We are already working on our next show.
Additional winners on the pro portion of the card included Gabriel Daffron, who defeated previously unbeaten Quenton Hansen by first-round read naked choke (3:45) in his pro debut, and Alvin Welch improving his record to 2-0 with a quick first-round KO (44 seconds) of Christopher Varner at 135 pounds.
Nicol Hansen highlighted a strong amateur side of the card by improving to 2-0 with a win over Mireya Sanchez by first-round armbar (1:29) in a clash of 125 pounders.
Ty Morris, a 125-pound fighter from Portland, Ore., defeated Preston Gregory by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) in his amateur MMA debut, while Gavin Rice improved his record to 3-0 with a first-round stoppage by strikes (1:28) of Shawn Sack.
Heavyweight Tyler Hodgendorn opened the event with a second-round submission by rear naked choke (54 seconds) of Josh Adams.
