Two Championships Fights Set for Clinch FC’s return to Legends Casino

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Sept. 19, 2024

TOPPENISH, Wash. – Two championships will be up for grabs when Clinch Fight Club heads back to Legends Casino Resort on Saturday, No. 2.

The MMA organization’s vacant featherweight and flyweight crowns will be challenged in a double main event with Steven Chang and Michael Cyr battling it out for the featherweight title and Alvin Welch and Jose Hernandez tangling for the flyweight championship.

“This is a first for Clinch FC. We’ve never had a card that featured two championship title bouts. It’s something we are extremely excited about,” Clinch FC promoter George Dodd said. “Central Washington has such a strong MMA fanbase and we wanted to provide them with the very best card we could. I think we’ve accomplished that.”

Tickets for the show, which will feature both professional and amateur MMA fights, can be purchased online (legendscasino.com/events) or at the Legends Gift Shop. Must be 18 years plus to attend.

The doors will open at 6 p.m. with preliminary bouts starting at 7 p.m.

Clinch FC held its most recent event at Legends Casino on July 20. Sarek Shields defeated Fay Bursell by first-round TKO to capture the organization’s vacant welterweight title. It marked the second championship bout in Clinch FC’s two-year history, following Johnny Robles winning the promotion’s bantamweight title with a triumph over Daniel McElhaney on May 13.

“It’s been an incredible year for Clinch FC. We have really seen the promotion grow,” Dodd said. “This is shaping up to be our best card yet, and we couldn’t think of a better way to close out the year with two title fights featuring four fighters who are all deserving of being called champion.”

Chang, a member of American Top Team Portland, brings a stellar 5-1 record into his title contest against Spokane’s Cyr, who has won two straight and sports a 6-1 career mark.

Cyr, a product of Warrior Camp MMA who is ranked as No. 6 pound for pound fighter in the Pacific Northwest, will be looking to secure championship gold in back-to-back bouts as the 28-year-old defeated Yazan Hajeh by second-round submission to win the Fierce Fighting Championship bantamweight title on Jan. 27 in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Chang defeated Eric Cronkhite by split decision in his last bout on May 11.

Welch and Hernandez both appeared at Clinch FC’s July 20 at Legends Casino with Welch improving his record to 4-1 after defeating Hector Lopez by split decision, while Hernandez dropped a hard-fought fight to undefeated Micah Haas by unanimous decision.

The undercard will feature Elisha Ellison, the No. 5 ranked heavyweight in the Pacific Northwest, facing Nick Mills, Ryan Kim fighting Juan Rosales, Jerome Klumb squaring off against Nick Johnson, Jason Enarson meeting Matt Terrell and Quenton Hansen and Mario Texidor in a featherweight bout.
