Legends Casino Hotel, Central Washington Fair Association partner with CageSport to bring MMA to Yakima

For the first time ever CageSport MMA is heading to Yakima as Legends Casino Hotel presents CageSport 62 at the Yakima Valley SunDome on Saturday, April 23.

The event will be headlined by a pair of championship title fights as CageSport heavyweight champion Sua Tuani defends his crown against Yakima’s Richard Foster, while welterweight titlist Luis Iniguez squares off against Albert Tadevosyan for the vacant 185-pound championship.

Tickets for the all-ages show are available through the TicketsWest or the Yakima Valley SunDome (509) 248-7160. Preliminary bouts startat 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Opened in 1998, Legends Casino Hotel is owned and operated by the Yakama Nation and currently offer more than 1,500 slot machines, 19 table games, Keno and a poker room, while the hotal has more than 200 guest rooms.

“State Fair Park and Event Center is excited to continue bringing first-class entertainment options to the Valley in the Yakima Valley SunDome,” said Kathy Kramer, President and CE of the Central Washington Fair Association. “The ability to host the MAA Cage Sport 62 event is an example of the collaboration of working with great partners like Halquist Productions and Legends Casino Hotel to continue serving the Valley.”

Built in 1990 on the Central Washington State Fairgrounds, the Yakima Valley SunDome is a multi-purpose area and the second dome, behind the Seattle’s Kingdome, in the world to use a concrete sectional roof design. The popular venue has hosted a variety of sporting events and concerts over the last 32 years, including several boxing cards featuring former world heavyweight contender Joe Hipp.

“We’ve wanted to hold a show in Central Washington for quite some time now,” CageSport General Manager George Dodd said. “The MMA community in Yakima has been so strong since the sports inception. It really made coming here a priority for us, and the incredible individuals at Legends Casino Hotel and the Central Washington Fair Association really made all of this possible. It’s a relationship CageSport is determined to build on so we can bring more shows to the area.”

In 2008, Brian Halquist Productions promoted StrikeForce at the Tacoma Dome with a then-state combative sports record 7,500 fans attending the event, which was main evented by MMA legend Bob Sapp. Following the success of that show, Halquist Productions teamed up with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians and the Emerald Queen Casino to present the inaugural CageSport show in June 2008. CageSport has since become the longest-running all-professional mixed martial arts promotion in the Northwest with 61 shows and nearly 600 fights.

Many fighters such as current UFC Women’s Bantamweight champion Julianna Pena, Miesha Tate, Bryan Caraway, Sam Sicilia, Michael Chiesa,Terrance McKinney, Anthony Hamilton, Chase Hooper, Tristan Connelly andYakima’s own Julian Erosa have all fought on previous CageSport shows before moving on to UFC superstardom.

In addition to holding shows at the Emerald QueenCasino in Tacoma, CageSport has also held two shows at the Seven Feathers Casino Resort in Canyonville, Ore. with the upcoming CageSport 63 on tap to beat the southern Oregon casino on May 7.
